East meets west

Reds will continue the battle to avoid relegation on Humberside this Saturday when they travel to play fellow strugglers, North Ferriby United (3pm).

It will be their seventh visit to the now named Chadwick Stadium but the first for over five years since losing a National North fixture there in 2013. In previous visits to the Grange Lane ground, Reds have won twice, drawn twice and lost twice.

Their overall record against United is quite good with five victories and four draws recorded in eleven previous meetings.

If Workington’s bid to avoid the drop comes under the difficult category, it is almost mission impossible for The Villagers who are currently 21 points from safety. But there will be no complacency in the Reds camp with the team renown for kick-starting struggling clubs seasons.

Ferriby have won just twice this season and suffered no fewer than twenty two defeats, conceding seventy nine goals in the process – statistics that will instil a touch of nervousness into all Reds supporters!

Lee Andrews and Steven Rudd will have to make changes to the squad with Josh Calvert unavailable and Brad Hubbold opting to return to Holker Old Boys in an attempt to get some much needed game time.

Three players missed Tuesday’s training session, after sustaining minor knocks at Grantham, but should recover in time for the encounter between the bottom two clubs in Evo-Stik Premier.

Dan Carmichael’s playing status hasn’t been resolved but club secretary Alec Graham was hoping it would be sorted before the week-end.
