Early kick-off at Tad

Reds’ NPL North West Division fixture at Tadcaster Albion will kick-off an hour earlier on Saturday as the popular Yorkshire club makes an emotional return to their flood ravaged Global Stadium.

The early start is necessary as the floodlights are not fully functional at the moment.

It will be Tad’s first home game since 4 February with extensive flood damage caused to the pitch (four feet under water at one point), the social club, dressing rooms, outer buildings and equipment, perimeter fencing and the car park.

Despite the heartache caused by Storm Ciara, initially, Albion are still within touching distance of the play-offs, should they be able to capitalise on their games in hand.

They are currently 7th in the table with 40 points from 26 games played and, like their county rivals, Pontefract Collieries and Marske United, won’t be giving up the fight just yet.

And whilst we appeal to our supporters to be as generous as possible on their visit to Ings Lane, Danny Grainger will be hoping there will be no favours on the pitch.

Having already played twice, the two clubs will know each other’s strengths (and weaknesses) and experience suggests this will be a very tough game for Reds with the hosts backed by a bigger crowd than usual.

We won the league encounter at Borough Park thanks to goals from Brad Hubbold and Nathan Waterston but then had to battle to come through an FA Trophy tie at the Global with Sam Smith (in the grounds of the Samuel Smith Brewery) grabbing the only goal of the game.
