Derby day
Reds welcome Kendal Town to Borough Park on Tuesday (7.45pm) for the first league derby in fifteen years.
The two teams haven’t battled for league points since the 2003-04 campaign with the only meetings in recent years restricted to the League Cup or pre-season friendlies.
Kendal, now managed by Steve Edmondson, have endured a tough start to the season but will draw confidence from Saturday’s 2-2 draw at Droylsden. Loan signing Emil Jaaskelainen’s arrival seems to have given the squad a boost with the Blackpool striker already amongst the goals.
He scored against Reds Reserves at Parkside Road in a Lancashire League fixture recently and has since scored three times in the NPL.
There will be some familiar faces in the Kendal squad with Sean Paterson, Tom Fagan and Jamie Pattinson all representing Reds last season.
Danny Grainger will run fitness checks on several members of the squad before naming his starting XI.
In forty-two previous NPL encounters, Reds have recorded sixteen victories, Kendal have managed thirteen successes with thirteen matches ending as a draw.
It will be the first of consecutive Tuesday matches against Town as they return on the 17th for an Integro League Cup tie.
