Derby action at Derwent Park
A bit of history was made on Sunday afternoon when Reds Ladies hosted Carlisle United Ladies at Derwent Park, Workington Town’s headquarters.
And the new surroundings must have been to Workington’s liking as they emerged comfortable 3-0 winners to complete a derby double.
After a fairly mundane first half, Reds opened the scoring soon after the break and it was top scorer, Hayley Bracken, who had the satisfaction of scoring the first goal at the ‘new’ venue.
Bracken tried her luck from distance and the ball trickled over the line after a handling error from United ‘keeper, Alice Heaton.
There may have been a touch of fortune about the historic goal but there was certainly no doubt about the second, Bracken thundering home an unstoppable volley from an acute angle.
Hannah Geen netted the final goal of the afternoon as the match finished in near darkness. Reds seventh league win consolidated 7th spot in Division One North ahead of the Christmas break.
