“Definitely the toughest team”

Sponsors Man of the Match Jay Kelly described last night’s opponents as ‘definitely the toughest team’ that Reds have faced so far.

Kelly, who has been a stalwart in the back four over the last three league games, has contributed with a goal and assist during his stint at right back, and spoke following the 1-1 draw at Borough Park.

They were definitely the toughest team we’ve faced so far” he said after Reds extended their lead at the top of the table to three points.

It wasn’t easy, Especially with the conditions, in the rain on a Tuesday night. The big lad up front a handful but at the end of the day, it was good point.”

Kelly, who won the Cumberland Cup back in April with Carlisle United, thinks that there’s ‘more to come’ from him following some impressive performances.

I still think I can get forward more and create more. Although, it’s just about maintaining the number two shirt now.

In his first year of senior football, the youngster is relishing the quick turnaround of Saturday-Tuesday games in the Northern Premier League.

As a player there’s nothing better.

Training’s enjoyable but that competitiveness and doing everything you can to get three points is what we wanna do this year.

Kelly explained

Finally, his own position at full. Ack is one of many starting XI spots where the competition is hot, as Robbie Hebson has also began the season well, and Kelly has described the squad depth as ‘amazing’ before elaborating.

Danny’s brought players in because he believes in every single one of us. He’s got that depth there and he can adapt us to certain situations.

Reds travel to Merseyside for the second Saturday running this weekend, facing Runcorn Linnets at the Millbanks Linnets Stadium for a 3pm kick-off.
