Debut for Alli?

Reds are hoping to hand loan signing Millenic Alli his Workington debut in Wednesday’s Cumberland Cup tie v. Windscale at Borough Park (7.30pm).

Due to current restraints, only the Enclosure (west) side of the stadium will be open with access to the ground via the Social Club.

Danny Grainger has been very impressed with Alli in training saying he is a very talented player who will excite supporters and create opportunities with his flamboyant style of play.

Like the Moor Row game in the first round, the manager will give youth a chance with several teenagers expected to feature against the Egremont based outfit.

Grainger is also contemplating a return for Sam Smith who hasn’t featured since the match at Clitheroe five weeks ago.

It is twenty one years since Windscale lifted the Cumberland Cup and probably even longer since the two sides were drawn against each other in the competition. They are currently bottom of the sixteen-team Wearside League but are certainly a better side than their present position suggests.

Darren Donald, who once netted twice for Reds Reserves in a Lancashire League fixture, recently took on the role of player/manager and several members of his local squad have featured for our second string in the past.

Windscale originally joined the Wearside League in the early nineties but are now into their fourth season of their second stint in the north-east based competition. They have never won the Wearside title but finished a commendable 3rd on one occasion.
