Dav extends his stay to a ninth season

Top scorer, Dav Symington, has committed his immediate future to the Reds by extending his stay at Borough Park for a ninth consecutive season.

He becomes the first of the retained players to pledge his services to his hometown club for the 2024-25 campaign, to the delight of manager Mark Fell and the Workington supporters.

I’m delighted Dav has committed to the Reds again this season.

New boss Mark Fell

“His performances over the last few seasons have been exceptional and he leads from the front in terms of his ability. He’s raring to go and has already set himself targets to eclipse 2023/24 personally and for the club.”

“The fact he was approached by many managers from leagues above the NPL this summer not only shows his loyalty to Workington, but also his belief that we can really achieve together this campaign. He’s a player I’m excited to work with and will be a key to our success this season.”

Dav, who took over the captaincy from Conor Tinnion half-way through last season, became the talisman with his consistent scoring. He bagged 24 league goals last term, plus two more in the Cumberland Cup, and is now just four-short of his century in Workington colours.

Voted Supporters’ Player of the Season for the last two campaigns, Dav was named in the NPL West ‘Team of the Year’ twelve months ago and could be ‘included’ in the Premier Division XI on the back of some outstanding individual performances.

On extending his stay at the Reds, Dav commented “I’m over the moon to get a deal sorted. I did have teams interested this summer, I won’t lie, but being a local lad from Workington, none of them would have felt like home, so it was a no-brainer to stay.

I’m really looking forward to this season – it’s a fresh start for everyone and with some new players coming in, too. We have a new gaffer with different ideas and different style to previous managers we’ve had, but it’s looking really positive and I can’t wait to get going!

The Workington based attacker joined the club in 2016 having played briefly, on loan, for Reds the previous year.
