‘Danny Grainger’s progressive style of play suits him well’, Liam Brockbank post Gretna game interview

Reds newcomer Liam Brockbank says that Danny Grainger’s progressive style of play suits him well after his impressive display last night.

The young left back scored a cracker from 20 yards to equalise in the first half against Gretna, and earned plaudits for a fantastic performance.

Suited to getting high up the pitch, Brockbank said:

It’s really my game, getting forward and getting crosses in; shots as well, and tonight it worked.”

The former Carlisle United youth product finished off a wonderful passing move with a venomous strike into the top right-hand corner and was chuffed with his end product.

I’m definitely proud of it, I was screaming for the ball and eventually it got to me.

he expressed.

It was just one of those that I caught and got it into the top corner.

Boss Grainger’s brand of football encourages Brockbank’s role to be an advanced one and the 18-year-old described those instructions to us.

Danny’s set us up this season to play out from the back with the full backs getting high and wide.

Obviously, it worked tonight and we got in to score.

As most friendlies have been, it became feisty during periods at Raydale Park but Brockbank is aware he could do with improving physically to help thrive in the Northern Premier League and beyond.

That’s my weakness. It’s going to be something I work on over the course of the season,

he admitted.

I just want to try to get better and get stronger.

The 2019-20 campaign begins three weeks on Saturday, and the Millom-born marauder is ready for the challenge.

I’m feeling good, ready and confident for all of us.

Reds now have the weekend off, before travelling to Radcliffe on Saturday 3rd August.
