Damp derby day
One of the most anticipated derby days in years is in the lap of the Gods.
Workington’s short journey to play south Cumbrian rivals, Kendal Town, for a rare Saturday league fixture at Parkside Road, will depend on how much rain falls from leaden skies in the next twenty four hours.
Rain is forecast for much of Friday and into Saturday and that’s in addition to what has already been a very wet week.
Although Reds have returned to form since the damaging defeat at Ramsbottom United a month ago, Kendal’s recent performances suggest it will be a far closer contest than those September encounters at Borough Park.
On successive Tuesdays, Reds inflicted a 5-0 league defeat upon Town followed by a 6-1 League Cup win. Steve Edmondson’s side has improved considerably since then and are far more competitive now.
They are still near the foot of the table but have twenty points to their credit, five more than Pickering Town who currently occupy the one relegation berth. They still have to play Pickering in North Yorkshire.
Danny Grainger’s squad trained well on Thursday after battling through testing conditions at Droylsden and will be ready – whatever the weather!
