Dabba’s coast to coast challenge

David Hewson has played for a few teams in his career but representing Eden Valley Hospice in a demanding cross-country cycle challenge is, perhaps, his greatest sporting achievement.

After completing the 130 miles from Workington to Tynemouth, Dabba described the exhausting fourteen and half hours in the saddle as the toughest physical challenge he has ever done.

“I am extremely proud of the achievement and feel like I have played ten ninety minute football matches non-stop,” he said.  

“It was an amazing experience with a fantastic group of riders and support team,” he added.

Dabba raised over £1,200 which will be split between Eden Valley Hospice in memory of good friend and former Reds’ skipper, Tony Hopper, and the Alzheimer’s Society in support of ex. Workington boss, Tommy Cassidy.

The twenty five riders left Workington harbour at 6am and crossed the finishing line at Tynemouth Priory at half past eight on Saturday evening.

One of Dabba’s colleagues on the day was fellow former Workington Reds player, Richard Prokas, who took to endurance cycling and running after his football career ran its course. A proud day for both and the rest of the group.
