CONTRACT: Wordsworth commits to ninth year
We are delighted to announce that defender Dan Wordsworth has committed to a ninth year with the club, signing a new contract ahead of next season.
Wordsworth, 29, had a renaissance eighth campaign at Borough Park last term, earning the club’s Player of the Month award in August and Northern Premier League’s in January.
‘Goose,’ is set to make it almost a decade at the club – equally sandwiching time travelling in Australia – and last month spoke honestly about his turnaround, which you can read here.
Speaking over the phone about the new deal on Thursday, Wordsworth said: “I’m chuffed to have re-signed. It really didn’t take much thinking about to be honest, especially given the successful season we’ve just had.”
“The end of the season was a very bitter pill to swallow because we were so close to our goal. For all the hard work from everyone on and off the pitch to be classed as ‘null and void’ is a massive shame.
“Looking forward, though, the gaffer, Ruddy and the other coaching staff have given us a great platform to go on and push for promotion again and I have no doubt that we can do that,” stated Wordsworth.
“We’ve got a great tight knit squad with a good blend of experience and youth which I’m looking forward to being apart of.”
Despite not knowing exactly when the 2020-21 term will get underway, manager Danny Grainger and assistant Steven Rudd have been working on recruitment to build on the last campaign’s table-topping effort.
