Coast to coast for Reds

After losing the last two home games to the weather and not playing for nearly three weeks Reds will be looking forward to some action at Whitby Town on Saturday (3pm).

But in another ‘must win’ game, which way will it go?

Could it be the lads are a bit rusty having not played for a while or will they be raring to go and eager to get back in action after the enforced break. We were on a losing streak before the weather and pitch problems intervened, so the break can only have been good in that sense.

And one or two niggling injuries will have cleared enabling Lee Andrews to select from a near full squad.

Dan Wordsworth’s protracted suspension will reach a conclusion after Saturday so he will be back in contention for the final eight games.

Chris Hardy’s Whitby Town squad, including former Reds players Matty Tymon and Alex White, have enjoyed a good, steady season and are currently 11th with 46 points, seventeen more than Reds.

Three of those points were obtained at Borough Park back in October when Town, a goal down to a Conor Tinnion goal, recovered to win 2-1 thanks to Andy Monkhouse’s equaliser and Lewis Maloney’s winner.

That victory maintained Whitby’s impressive record in Cumbria (four wins in seven league visits). On the other hand, Reds record at the Turnbull Ground is not too bad (two wins, three draws and one defeat) in half a dozen league meetings.

The all important weather forecast suggests a far better day than we have experienced on the two most recent Saturdays.
