CLUB ANNOUNCEMENT: Brian Dawson
Brian Dawson, who runs Workington’s highly successful ‘Reds in the Community’ programme, is earmarked to take over as manager of North West Counties League neighbours, Cleator Moor Celtic.
The move has been pencilled in from the end of this season and will not affect Dawson’s employment as RITC supremo.

It may mean potential disruption for the Workington Development Squad which Dawson oversees with Craig Routledge. They currently play in the Premier Division of the County League having switched from the Lancashire League in 2020.
Dawson, who has previously managed Millom and Holker Old Boys, is a former Workington player, spending four seasons with the club in the early 2000s.
He will remain in charge of the Development Squad for the remainder of the season and explained to the WAFC website:
“This isn’t a decision that we have taken lightly. Craig Routledge and I have really enjoyed working with the Development team over the last few seasons, however we feel that this opportunity was too good for us to turn down. We both have aspirations of being successful in our respective coaching careers and this is a good platform for us to test ourselves at a decent level of football.

“We won’t be leaving the football club altogether, my day job will still be overseeing Reds in the Community and the Academy where we continue to coach during the week. We have a good group of coaches who I have confidence in to ensure things run smoothly on match days for our Academy teams.
“We would like to thank the lads for all their efforts over the last couple of years and wish them the best of luck for the future. Whoever takes over will have a fantastic and talented squad of players to work with,” he concluded.
