Change in management for Development Squad

The Reds Development Squad will have new personnel in charge this season following the departure of Brian Dawson and Craig Routledge.

Following in their footsteps will be Lee McCullough and Malcolm Allison (pictured) with both introduced at the squad’s first training session this week.

Lee has had several spells at Borough Park both as a player with first team and reserves and also managing the latter in the Lancashire League during the 2018-19 season.

He spent five years at the Carlisle United Academy during the nineties, played for the Reserves and eventually made a scoring debut for the first team at Stalybridge Celtic during the Tommy Cassidy era twenty years ago.  A five year stint with Netherhall followed and then a further spell with Reds Reserves.

Lee has also held managerial and coaching roles with Whitehaven and, most recently, Penrith Academy.

Assisting Lee will be Malcolm Allison, a player and coach for many years with Workington Juniors.  He has been coaching for nine years with the Juniors and has also worked for the RITC programme.

The duo met the old and the new at the Development Squad’s first pre-season session and will be tasked with preparing the group ahead of the new County League season.

They plan a series of friendlies during July and August with matches against Windscale and Queen of the South already pencilled into the schedule.

  • The County League AGM was held this week and confirmed the resignations of Northbank, Mirehouse and Workington Athletic.  Bransty have been re-elected to the League and Whitehaven Miners Social were granted permission to enter a second team.  The two division format will be confirmed in due course with the season scheduled to kick-off on 20 August.
