Brad Carroll: team spirit phenomenal

Vice-captain Brad Carroll has described Reds’ team spirit as ‘phenomenal’ following the 0-3 win at Colne on Saturday.

Carroll broke the deadlock midway through the first half to help his team get back to winning ways, and played 90 minutes for the second time since a winter injury lay-off.

Speaking post-match, midfielder Carroll said: “It was brilliant; you can see the reaction of the lads,” when discussing the win’s importance.

“After two disappointing results – when you think you should’ve got six points – to come here, and it’s a difficult place to come, and play how we did it was fantastic from the lads.”

In challenging conditions, Reds had to grind things out for the majority of the first half but Carroll’s bundled finish proved vital.

The recently-turned 23-year-old talked about how getting the first goal and digging in with team spirit turned the tide from recent games.

“In the last couple of games, we’ve conceded first. Teams then sit back and it just makes things that bit harder.

“The team spirit in the dressing room is just phenomenal. The lads are all round each other and training’s bouncing. It’s just good to get a reaction.”

The injury Carroll suffered before the New Year was frustrating for the midfielder, and it was a rewarding weekend for him.

“It’s good to get a full 90 minutes into my legs and to get a goal was really the cherry on top of the cake but the main thing is three points and we go again next week.”

Back on track with a victory, the big games keep coming with Marske United coming to Borough Park on Saturday and a trip to Ramsbottom United next week.

However, the doesn’t phase Carroll, who explained: “To be honest, it doesn’t matter who we’re playing – bottom or top of the table – every game is just as big.

“If we’re gonna will the league, we’re gonna have to come to places like this and winning against them.

“Every game is massive.”

Kick-off for the home match against Marske on Saturday is 3pm.
