Bowman ‘buzzing’

Charlie Bowman was ‘buzzing’ to score his first goal of 2019-20, the third of five strikes without reply last night against former club Kendal Town.

Bowman, who played just under an hour up front alongside Scott Allison, headed in a pin-point Robbie Hebson cross eight minutes after the break to ensure that the all-Cumbrian contest was put to bed without too much trouble Reds.

Manager Danny Grainger kept faith in the striker, handing him his second league start of the season; after most of his appearances so far from the bench.

Not only was the goal a marker of his performance, but Bowman used his imposing presence to full effect, giving his usual graft for Reds, and spoke post-match as the lights went down on a blustery Borough Park.

It was definitely a convincing win.

Danny’s just told us in there, it doesn’t really matter how many we score, just as long as we get three points.

Describing the feeling when the ball went into the back of the net, Bowman said:

Buzzing! It’s always good to score but like I say, three points is the main thing.

Dav Symington grabbed a brace and there were two other different goalscorers, as Brad Hubbold and Gari Rowntree also got on the scoresheet – something that was no surprise to Bowman.

There’s goals from everywhere.

Goose [Dan Wordsworth] says that he’s ‘Goosey Goals,’ Gari’s calling himself ‘Gari Goals,’ Ash Kelly’s not here tonight and Kieran Maguire’s not played yet – everyone can score.

The Cumbrian element of the game did not weigh too much on Bowman, saying:

A goal’s a goal, I just love scoring them regardless of who it’s against.

Reds are now seven games unbeaten in the Northern Premier League’s North West division, with five wins and two draws, both coming prior to last night’s thrashing of the Mintcakes.

Bowman ended with:

As long as keep picking up points and maintaining that unbeaten run, we’ll all be happy.

Reds travel to Seel Park on Saturday, with Mossley welcoming Grainger’s side to Greater Manchester, before facing Kendal again next Tuesday at Borough Park in the Integro League Cup.
