Reds’ impressive record against Prescot Cables will count for nothing when they head for Volair Park on Saturday (3pm).
There will be pressure on the team to get back on track following last Saturday’s capitulation at Ramsbottom which cost them top-spot in the North West division of the NPL.
No such pressure on Cables, though, and the mid-table outfit will prove difficult opposition as they attempt to show they are in a false position.
It is only seven weeks since the two sides met at Borough Park, a game Reds eventually won 4-0 but only after Cables had edged a goalless first half.
December was a purple patch for Reds with a 100% success rate in the four league matches played. January wasn’t quite as good in comparison and eight points were dropped as the team failed to win against Pontefract, Trafford and Ramsbottom.
It goes without saying that February’s fixtures will be pivotal in terms of reviving the promotion push.
But Reds’ excellent month for December will be recognised before kick-off when League Chairman, Mark Harris, will present Danny Grainger with the Club of the Month award.
It will be Workington’s first visit to Prescot for fifteen years and Reds supporters will enjoy the facilities in the town and the ground itself.
They won’t be the only red-shirted team chasing important league points on Merseyside with Mr. Klopp’s boys also in action eight miles to the west of Volair Park.
