MATCH PREVIEW: Able Cables and Arwen must be overcome
Reds play their first league game at Borough Park for five weeks on Saturday (3pm) and must overcome two tough opponents if they are to reduce the points gap between leaders, Marine, and themselves.
Storm Arwen and Prescot Cables stand between Reds and a fifth home win of the season as Chris Willcock’s side aim to consolidate second position in NPL West.
They go into their eighth home game of the season, five points behind leaders Marine who will be on FA Trophy duty. Opponents Prescot are currently third from bottom with just eleven points but a recent win over Mossley should serve as a warning to Reds that nothing should be taken for granted in this league.
Cables have never beaten Reds in the eight league matches between the clubs but they did win at Borough Park three years ago in a League Cup tie. The two sides didn’t meet at all last season due to the pandemic.
The manager will be without the suspended Reuben Jerome, who starts his three match ban, whilst Brad Carroll and Donae Lawrence join Scott Allison and Nic Evangelinos on the injured list.
Although Marine and Mossley won’t be involved in league action, there are some important fixtures going ahead. Third placed Runcorn Linnets travel to bottom club, Market Drayton Town, Warrington Rylands, currently 4th, host Ramsbottom United, fifth place Leek Town entertain Colne whilst Clitheroe (7th) and Trafford (8th) play each other.
Reds will welcome a special guest to the game with former manager, Tommy Cassidy, making his first visit to the ground in over seven years. He will be accompanied by family and friends and former chairman, Dale Brotherton, who has kindly organised the visit.
