A66 derby

The Reds pre-season tour of Cumbria continues on Tuesday with a match against Andy Coyles’ Penrith at Frenchfield (7.30pm).

Having been to the west of the county (Whitehaven), north (Carlisle City) and south (Barrow) for their friendlies so far, the compass needle will point east for their fourth game of the summer.

There will be plenty of ex. Workington players in the Penrith squad and a few ex. Blues playing for Reds with David Hewson, now on the coaching staff at Frenchfield, an ‘opponent’ for the first time in many a year.

Danny Grainger will be operating with a near full squad which suggests Alex Mitchell might be in contention for his first run-out although Owen Bell will not feature.

Penrith have played three games so far in preparation for their Northern League campaign which gets underway on 3 August. They drew at Richmond (2-2), beat Sandbach United (3-1) and lost to Carlisle United (0-4) on Saturday.

The Blues emerged 3-2 winners in the pre-season game twelve months ago while a Nathan Waterston goal settled the match at Borough Park the previous year.
