3G test for Danny’s boys
Reds will continue their build-up to the new season with a first game of the summer on a 3G surface at Consett’s Belle View stadium.
They have played the Northern League outfit twice in recent seasons, losing 2-1 at Consett in 2015 and sharing six goals at Borough Park on the corresponding Saturday twelve months ago.
Danny Grainger will take a sixteen man squad across the A66 and there will be another opportunity for Eli Demetriou who played for the Reserves on Thursday. Only four of the players – Gari Rowntree, Brad Hubbold, Kieran Maguire and new skipper Conor Tinnion – who played in the 3-3 draw last summer will feature on Saturday.
It took a spectacular goal from Tinnion to salvage a draw in that most recent encounter after Consett scored three times in the first half.
Consett, who finished 4th in their league last term, have won three times and drawn once in their four pre-season games to date, scoring 14 goals in the process.
