CLUB NEWS: Cumberland Cup reprieve

Reds have been reinstated into the 2024-25 Cumberland Cup.

Knocked out of the competition after losing, on penalties, to Whitehaven on 12 November, Workington were given an unexpected reprieve after the West Lancashire League outfit were found to have fielded an ineligible player.

The offender was introduced to the game as an 88th minute substitute, and played throughout extra time, but had already represented another team earlier in the competition.

Whitehaven had the right to appeal but opted not to, meaning the decision to expel them from the competition stood.

Workington will now travel to Carlisle City for the quarter final tie which will be played at Gillford Park on Tuesday 21 January, 2025 (7.45pm).

  • The match at Borough Park finished in a 3-3 draw, after extra time, with Whitehaven winning the shoot-out, 4-3.
