MATCH PREVIEW: The longest day

Reds players and supporters face a long day on Saturday with the journey to Mickleover one of the longest trips of the season.  They face a round trip of over 400 miles for an important NPL Premier Division encounter and, as well as the three points up for grabs, there will be a bit of family pride at stake.

Josh Galloway will be giving his usual 100% for the Reds’ cause but dad, Mick, will be doing his utmost to help Mickleover, where he is assistant manager, end a recent run of defeats.  The Galloways are the latest father and son duo to play for Workington.

It will be the first meeting between the clubs since 2019 – they were still Mickleover Sports then – and the Don Amott Arena has changed considerably since our last visit.  They switched to a 3G surface three years ago although their midweek game was postponed due a covering of snow.

Although we won our first ever game at Mickleover, we have lost on our last three visits failing to score on each occasion.  Overall, we have played eight times with Mickleover winning four of those and Reds successful on three occasions.

They are just below us in the table with 17 points to their credit – Reds, 15th, have 19 points to date.
