MATCH PREVIEW: Something has to give
It could be billed as the Premier Division’s worst home record versus the league’s worst return on the road but, however the contest is previewed, Reds’ second visit to Broadhurst Park is a very important fixture.
FC United of Manchester go into the game as slight favourites, only because of Workington’s crippling injury list, and a rare draw would probably suit the Cumbrians more than the hosts.
Reds are currently four points better off than FC United but the latter have played a game less.
Last season, we inflicted a league double on the Mancunians, a narrow 2-1 win on home soil followed by an impressive 3-1 success after our maiden visit to Moston. The Carlisle United loanees – Messrs Allan, Fitzpatrick and Hetherington – all contributed to that victory with the latter scoring a rather special goal that day. Hopefully, all three will be available for Saturday.
For Theo Farquharson, it will be a return to one of his former clubs having spent a brief spell at Broadhurst last season.
FC United have obtained four points from their last two away games – a late equaliser securing a valuable point at Hebburn a fortnight ago and two first half goals at Leek Town last week helping them to a narrow 2-1 victory.
Manager, Mark Fell, was looking at the possibility of extra recruits to see us through the injury crisis but, regardless, several members of the Youth team will travel with the squad.
