NEW SIGNING: Matty Clarke returns

Reds have boosted their depleted squad with Matty Clarke returning to Borough Park for a second spell.

In his four seasons at the club, between 2019 and 2023, Matty featured in 130 games (making 95 starts) usually operating at left or right fullback.

He arrived in west Cumbria just a few weeks into the 2019-20 season and made his Workington debut in a 1-0 win at City of Liverpool.  Prior to that, he had spent time with Kendal Town, Penrith and Bradford Park Avenue.

A spell with Lancaster City followed his first stint in west Cumbria before he moved, again, to Clitheroe and he has played against Workington for both over the past year.

In his first two seasons with the club, Matty made 30 starts before enjoying a very successful personal campaign in 2021-22. His record of 42 starts was more than any other player and his two goals included Reds’ ‘Goal of the season’ – a twenty-five yarder versus Warrington Rylands.

Clarkey played his final game for Clitheroe at the weekend and will go straight into the squad for Saturday’s game at Gainsborough Trinity.
