MATCH PREVIEW: League points rather than Cup glory
It’s FA Cup weekend but not for Reds. They will be in action at Matlock Town for the scheduled league fixture having exited the Cup in the previous round.
Just two matches will go ahead in the Premier Division and the important one from a Workington perspective is at the Proctors Cars Stadium where 14th placed Reds will hope to obtain points at the expense of ‘bottom of the table’ Gladiators.
Matlock are in the process of changing their manager as they seek a successor to Nicky Law.
They have lost six of their eight games so far and also fell at the first hurdle of the FA Cup. Reds have bagged nine points from eight games to date but, after a promising first half at Blyth, deteriorated in the second and left the north east empty handed.
Reds have experienced a mixed bag of results over many meetings with Matlock but last year it finished all square with a 2-2 draw the outcome. In the return, at Borough Park, Workington won by the odd goal in three.
With two tough home games scheduled for next week Mark Fell will be determined to register a second win on the road but, as was the case at Blyth in midweek, it won’t be easy.
Kick-off: 3pm
