MATCH PREVIEW: Cables and Reds seek first win

The Workington Reds bandwagon is back on the road on Tuesday with Mark Fell and his team travelling to Prescot Cables for the fourth league fixture of the new season.

And it is an important match for both teams as neither has registered a victory from their opening three games.  Cables have one point in the bank so far, following a goalless home draw against Matlock Town, but have lost their first two away games at Stockton (2-3) and Macclesfield (0-1).

Reds are one point better off to date thanks to a couple of home draws, following the opening day reverse at Guiseley.

Cables were promoted last season via the play-offs.  They finished in third position, thanks mainly to possessing the second-best defence in the West Division, then got the better of Bootle and City of Liverpool in the knock-out games.

Both play-off matches drew 2,000 plus attendances to the Joseph Russell Stadium and a decent crowd is expected for Tuesday’s encounter.

In twelve previous league meetings (two in the North West Counties and ten in the Northern Premier leagues), we have won seven times and drawn five and also got the better of them in a play-off clash during our promotion campaign of 2004-05.

Cables only victory in the fourteen matches played between the sides was a League Cup tie at Borough Park six years ago.

With Jordan Little still on holiday, Mark Fell will rely on the same squad that turned out on Saturday.
