MATCH PREVIEW: City come to town
Plenty of side issues to go with Reds’ opening Northern Premier League home game against Lancaster City (7.45pm on Tuesday).
It is of course, Mark Fell’s first Borough Park league game whilst it is also Chris Willcock’s first return to west Cumbria since his spell as Reds’ manager during the 21-22 campaign.
A tad ironic that both managers are facing a former club, as are some members of staff and players.
But neither manager will be too focused on the past, with their only concern the present, and the priority for both will be to obtain three points for their new employers and respective supporters.
It will be the 33rd meeting under the NPL banner and the honours are just in favour of City. They have won twelve times in the past, Reds have recorded eleven wins with nine matches finishing all square.
Last season’s encounters resulted in a 2-1 home win for Reds and a 1-1 draw at the Giant Axe.
The weather forecast suggests there might be a shower of rain on Tuesday evening but supporters may still need their sunglasses. Workington will play in their vivid all red strip whilst City have said they will use a pink outfit.
It will be the start of a busy week at Borough Park with the first team at home again on Saturday. In between, the youth team will host Whickham on Thursday as they begin their FA Youth Cup campaign.
