MATCH PREVIEW: Charity begins on the road
For the second consecutive pre-season game, Reds will face West Lancashire League opposition and, for the second time in a week, they will be involved in a charity match.
Their appearance at Whitehaven on Tuesday helped raise £1,100 towards British Polio and involvement in the George Melling Tournament this weekend will see all proceeds go to the MND Association.
The tournament takes place at Longridge Town’s Recycling Lives Ground and Reds will feature in the second game on Saturday.
First up will be the hosts, Longridge Town, who face Clitheroe at 1130 with Reds taking on Coppull United in the second match at the revised kick-off time of 1430.
A couple of firsts for the club will emerge from this unusual friendly with the team making their inaugural appearance at Longridge (about ten miles north east of Preston) and also facing Coppull for the first time.
Despite dominating much of the game on Tuesday, Workington suffered a 2-1 defeat against the hosts so, although manager Mark Fell wasn’t too concerned about the scoreline, supporters will be hoping for a better outcome against Coppull who were similarly ranked to Whitehaven last term.
Manager Fell was hoping to tweak the makeshift squad with a few different faces integrated to the eighteen players used in midweek.
The match has been brought forward ninety minutes to avoid clashing with the England v. Switzerland quarter final encounter in Dusseldorf.
Reds will host two home matches next week as Carlisle City (Tuesday) and Carlisle United (13 July) visit Borough Park.
