We are delighted to announce that first-team captain Conor Tinnion has re-signed with the club for the 2021/22 season.
Tinnion, 30 next month, will be staying at Borough Park for his 12th term as a Red, a tally that spans two spells of playing his football in Workington.
The Cumbrian has racked up 304 starts and 61 goals in just over 10 campaigns from multiple midfield positions and is now a senior figure in the BP dressing room.
Speaking on Saturday, ‘Tinners’ said that re-signing was a simple decision, one he was happy to make following the announcement of manager Danny Grainger and assistant Steven Rudd extending their stays last week.
“I think once I knew Danny and Ruddy were staying, there wasn’t any doubt that I was – there weren’t any long negotiations!”
“From a personal point of view, it’s obviously good to get it sorted this early and for it not drag on.”
With doubts growing as to whether the 20/21 Northern Premier League term will continue post-lockdown, Tinnion looked ahead to next season and discussed the odd of timing of sealing the deal compared to in usual non-COVID-19 circumstances.
“I’ve spoken to Danny a lot recently and it makes you feel that it’s just around the corner [the 21/22 term] but I think there’s going to be a bit of a lull at some point because we’re only in February.
“You’re wanting to get going again but unfortunately, we’re still quite a way off that.”
Gaffer Grainger expressed delighted over Conor committing to the club and praised his skipper’s leadership qualities.
“Tinners is captain for a reason,” said the boss.
“He always sets the standards in matches, in training and leads by example for all the lads to follow – especially the youngsters.
“He’s a winner and that’s what we want to do at this club; win games and get to where we want to be.”
Last Wednesday, no. 2 Rudd explained the outlook for the first-team squad beyond the ending of this current campaign, having already completed the capture of exciting young forward Iyrwah Gooden earlier this month.
“We’re always looking ahead and this summer, we’ll probably freshen it up a bit – not wholesale – we’ve already got Iyrwah in, he’ll be a good addition.”
