On Monday, Reds left back Liam Brockbank was awarded with a call-up to the England U21 futsal team ahead of their friendly.
Brockbank, who has impressed so far this season by starting the majority of games, was first introduced to the futsal scene following his release for Carlisle United earlier this year.
The youngster told the North West Evening Mail:
I got an email after I’d been released by Carlisle telling me about a trails day at St. Georges’s Park for England futsal.
I thought it would be a great opportunity to go down there and play, knowing no matter what the outcome would be, I would still enjoy it.
I still haven’t actually started a futsal game, but I got the email on Monday congratulating me on my call-up for the game against Loughborough tomorrow and I’m just excited for it, really.
Futsal has recently been on the rise across the globe, and Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Max Kilman is one of many success stories having played the variation during his youth.
England U21s face Loughborough at St. George’s Park today as Brockbank is set to represent his country.
