Stadium Update

By Ross Peacock

Shareholders and fans of Workington AFC will be aware that the club has met with Allerdale Borough Council and Workington Town in recent times... discuss how best to address the accommodation needs of both clubs in the future.

There is, understandably, a great deal of local interest in the project, and it is the intention of the board to provide periodic updates to keep everyone abreast of developments. We have to bear in mind the commercial sensitivity of any potential project, but we will endeavour to share information at the earliest appropriate moment.

Discussions of this nature, bringing together three very different organisations, require time in order to run effectively. Good early progress has been made, as all three share the same ambition to improve facilities for supporters, players and the people of west Cumbria. The focus of the meetings held to date has been on establishing the design specifications of any future development, and on looking at the requirements of both clubs - both in terms of what is required by the Football Association and Rugby Football League, and in order to help support the clubs' commercial development well into the future.

We are continuing to work through this initial consultation before we reach any decision making process. The board of directors will, of course, involve both shareholders and fans as the process develops, and in the meantime will work with the best long-term interests of our club as our sole focus.
