Derby day

By Paul Armstrong

Reds will make the relatively short trip to Lancaster on Wednesday with important league points at stake.

City will be keen to put Reds to the sword to inch clear of the relegation zone but they have lacked consistency of late and haven’t won too often at the Giant Axe. They are ten points ahead of Reds but have scored fewer and conceded more league goals than we have at the moment.

Twelve months ago the teams shared four goals in the corresponding fixture with City equalising deep into stoppage time.

Rob Wilson was still a Red then but will line-up against us on this occasion, as will another who has served both clubs – Tom Kilifin.

Having suffered back-to-back league defeats, with the Trophy exit at Ramsbottom sandwiched in between, Reds have to get ‘back on the horse’ and seek that elusive first away win.

At least Lee Andrews will have more options than Saturday with the four – Scott Allison, Jason Walker, Niall Cowperthwaite and Sam Smith – who missed the Scarborough encounter set to return.

An above average crowd is expected for the game which should generate a good atmosphere.
