Damage limitation exercise

8 months ago By Paul Armstrong

Twelve months ago, Reds played their part in an epic Monday evening shoot out in the Premier Division play-off semi-final at Amblecote.

We eventually lost, after extra time, by the odd goal in five.

On the strength of that compelling tie, both clubs were fancied to feature prominently in the title race this term but it hasn’t materialised.

Reds travelled to the War Memorial Athletic Ground last April with hope and, on the night, gave a great account of themselves before a sizeable away support. It will be rather different on this occasion with the threadbare squad on a damage limitation exercise.

Stourbridge actually leapfrogged Reds at the weekend following their 4-1 win over Stalybridge Celtic. They are now 13th with 56 points and their better goal ratio puts them ahead of 14th placed Reds.

Back in December, Reds netted a very late goal in a 2-1 victory but they have only won once in four visits to Amblecote and the odds are stacked against them for Monday’s encounter (7.45pm).

Paul Armstrong will provide the usual coverage via the Live Scoreboard facility.
