MATCH PREVIEW: Busy weekend

Reds have just six games left of a season which has remained interesting throughout and two of those matches will be played this weekend.

They travel down the M6 on Saturday for the return fixture v. Stafford Rangers then host Atherton Collieries on Monday with both fixtures kicking off at 3pm.

Reds back on the motorway for the trip to Stafford.

Stafford, our very first Northern Premier League opponents back in 1977, have endured a tough season with just 24 points to their credit so far.  But, on the basis of a team is only good as its last game, their confidence will be slightly better than ours.  Whilst we were going down at Gainsborough last Saturday, Rangers obtained a morale boosting 2-0 victory at Bamber Bridge.

Back in August we edged a tight game at Borough Park after Nathan Blissett had headed Rangers in front.  We eventually bagged the points thanks to a Dav Symington brace – his first goals of a very productive season.

Danny Grainger will have to shuffle the squad over the two games this weekend but will have Bobby Carroll back for Monday’s fixture after he completes his suspension.

To boost numbers, the manager signed on two members of the Development Squad prior to the Registration deadline with Sam Christian and Zak Walker joining the squad.

In twenty-three previous league matches against Rangers, the contests have always been closely fought – we have won seven times, they have recorded eight victories – and Reds have never scored more than twice against them.

For those unable to travel to the fixture at Marston Road (ST16 3BX), there will be live commentary of the game on BBC Radio Cumbria.
