Cumberland Youth Cup Final 2008, Wed 7 May 2008

Workington  4 - 1  Carlisle City

Reds' Academy retained the Cumberland Youth Cup with a comfortable victory at Penrith Town's Southend Road ground.

Dan Carmichael, who scored twice in last season's final, emerged as the man of the match with two superb strikes.

He opened the scoring with a perfect lob from the edge of the box seconds before the interval and netted his second, Reds' fourth, in the final quarter of an hour latching on to Steven Rudd's clever pass down the inside right channel before guiding the ball past the City 'keeper.

Ola Alibi had scored Reds' second two minutes after the restart following a goal mouth scramble.

Steven Rudd blasted a penalty high over the bar but made amends a few minutes later when the holders were awarded a second spot kick.  This time he converted, via the cross bar, to make it 3-0.

Alex Dicker was unlucky not to get on the scoresheet when his twenty yard shot struck the angle of post and cross bar.

City netted their deserved consolation goal seconds before the final whistle with a well taken effort.

The match was well refereed by former Reds' assistant boss Kenny Brown.
